MEMORIAL:
Written by: C. Jean Cann
My Mother was my life.
*She was my sun,
my moon, my wind, my
rain.* She was my lightness,
my darkness, my
friend, my enemy. She carried
me like no other. And all
I can do is imagine
how she had the strength.
She was my morning,
my night, my dreams, my
nightmares. She walk
beside me loving me, no
matter what transgressions
I lay before her. She
loved me like no other.
Mom was born an identical
twin, on
July 11, 1936.
She was older by five
minutes. She had an older
sister named Audrey, and a
younger brother
named Edward. Her
Mother was a homemaker
and seamstress, and her
Father was a Finance
Officer for the Army. At
12 years old, the family
moved to Japan where Mom
had one of her most
memorable times. She went
Mountain Climbing,
visited Shrines; they had
4 maids, 2
seamstresses, and a
gardener.
In late 1953 she met our
Father, James
William
Cann; and following a two
year affair married
him in April of 1955.
Their union produced
healthy children, but they
wound up divorcing
each other in April of
1967. Mom sought work
and became employed in
September of 1967.
On New Years Eve that same
year, she was hit
by a car in a Pedestrian
verses vehicle accident.
She lay in a coma for
approximately four months,
then woke up with the
knowledge that she was
divorced and had seven
children, and completely
"crippled".
During that time, she began a
several
year journey into healing.
For most of us that
healing would mean in a
physical sense, and I
believe for her in the
beginning this is what
she
sought first also.
But as time went on it was
clear that this is
when she began her
Spiritual healing Journey.
She managed the next few
years with several
of her children. I was one
of them and speaking
for myself, I was not
particularly easy on her.
She managed with a smile
and telephone.
And with the help of many
friends she began
to believe in herself
again and sought training
for a job which she
obtained at McKesson
Wine & Spirits as a
Message Center Operator
and Credit Transaction
Clerk. She worked
there for 11 years. :)
Mom mainly lived with the
philosophy of
"One Day at a
Time", making friends and sharing
her energy with many
people. She was loving,
and she was loved.
My Mother was diagnosed
with terminal Leukemia.
Her diagnosis came in the
summer of
‘95, but
I wasn't told she was
terminal until
September 22, 1995. We
began "The Battle" then,
vowing to fight this dark
enemy attacking her
blood cells. She became a
Warrior and I her
trusted Soldier. A gallant
Warrior she always
was, as I rode a Roller
coaster of Emotional Trauma.
As I carried her through
the physical challenges
of dying, her love carried
me through most of the
darkness; God did the
rest.
As she faded away, she
passed on her energy
to me; for it was through
her energy I carried
the shield and the armor
before us, to shield
the phantom we call death.
Sitting and watching
her fade away, brought me
closer to her energy.
At times I had no time for
me, nor did I require any.
For she was my sun, my
moon, my warm day in June.
She gave me more richness
through her love
than anyone can ever
taxate. I laugh as I think
of Donald Trump, the poor
man living on the
other side of the tracks,
always beating off
the IRS. Oh if they ever
found a way to taxate
love, I surely am over due
for a major Audit.
I was guarding the gate on
the eighth of that
fateful October night,
when someone came up
and hit
me in the head at 4:00 a.m.. The blunt
force rendered me
unconscious for fifty minutes.
Cleverly, she slipped past
the guarded gate.
Hazily I opened my eyes at
4:50 am, and I could
swear I saw her dancing
with Angels,
wearing the most beautiful
smile. She planned
her escape, for I can feel
that she would not let
go until I was away from
the guarded gate. At
times I feel I should be
court-martialed for
leaving the gate
unattended, and then I
remember her smile.
This morning I woke up and wrote the
following to share with
you....
The star is out but not the moon,
it twinkles as if to say hello.
The sky lights contrasted
by seemingly gray clouds...
That lighten to orange,
then pink,
then white
as this new day begins.
I've loved you from the
beginning of forever
for reasons only you can provide.
You are my sun,
my moon,
my bright day in June.
There could not have been
a better Mother for me,
nor any better circumstances.
You've taught me how to smile,
in the face of pain.
How to be free,
in the chains of misery.
How to hold my head high
while being beaten
how to laugh at a joke or two.
You've taught me how to love
and to be loved,
how to want and to be wanted,
to live within the boundaries of man
and to feel the need for warmth and cry.
Life will go on now,
but not without you.
You will always be a part of me.
I'll breathe the air
you bred me to,
I'll drink the water
and eat the bread
that sustains me.
And all the while
I'll hold you closer
and closer to my heart.
For it was you who gallantly
gave me my start.
I will not leave
until I complete
the journey you
provided for me.
I will let you see every
smile I make and every tear
I shed along the way,
and every smile I wear
I'll wear with the memory of you.
((((Family hug))))
